DC Comics And The War Of Competing Futures – Titans #17 And Detective Comics #968 (SPOILERS)
No one seems more obsessed with their future these days than DC Comics. In recent months we have had the children of the Justice League visit their forefathers to sort them out, Flash visiting his far futures, Batwoman dealing with a Batman of the future, a Nightwing Nazi of the future in The New Order, countless visions of what is to come, and a member of the Legion Of Superheroes come back to our time and get locked away in Arkham Asylum.
Today that means Titans #27 by Dan Abnett, Minkyu Jung, Mick Gray and Blond being visited by a millennia-old version of Donna Troy from the far future, telling them all what they get up to.
So that's the New Order future rather than the Batman Of Tomorrow future rather than the Detective Comics version, where Dick Grayson becomes Batman, not Tim Drake. And a sozzled Arsenal. Who else?
So the big problem from the future… is not seeing the future? Because that particular gift seems to be everywhere right now.
And everyone dies or becomes a cyborg. While over in Detective Comics #968 by James Tynion IV, Alvaro Martinez, Raul Fernandez and Tomeu Morey, we are learning more about the world where Tim Drake, not Dick Grayson becomes Batman. And what happens with Damien Wayne and Jonathan Kent…
And it's all Batwoman's fault. How very Bat-Garden of Eden.
While Batman Lost #1 has a version of the future that seems perfectly prepared for Brian Bendis.
But if it's the future, whichever one you choose, that depresses, maybe you'll find solace in the past? Courtesy of today's Suicide Squad #29 by Rob Williams and Wilfredo Torres we take a trip to the Silver Age for the earliest iteration of the Suicide Squad.
Whichever way you go, past, present or future, you're screwed in the DC Universe….
Suicide Squad #28, Detective Comics #968 and Titans #17 are all published this week by DC Comics.
