A Second Dinky Day? The Denver Independent Comic & Art Expo, Day Two

Neil Greenaway of NerdTeam30.com attended DINK for a second day – here was his first.

Denver Comic & Art Expo (or DINK!) day 2 started off with a slow walk around the floor, talking with friends and seeing what new vendors had set up for Saturday.

I had a Denis Kitchen panel & smoking tour to get to, but I'll save that story for another time. When the tour returned, I was ready to get down to business.

First, I stopped in to see Alex Delia & David Espy and picked up copies of the first several issues of their series, Eyesis the Untouchable.

Just a few tables away from them I found Ben Mikkelsen working on a page for issue 2 of his series, Stuffed.

I love this series about a boy who sees demons, but is protected by a teddy bear warrior. From there, I headed up to the main floor.

I met Monica Gallagher, and bought her book Boobage as well as three issues of Lipstick & Malice.

She was adamant that not ALL of them were autobiographical.

I stopped by Artie Romero's table and picked up a copy of his Nutso Toons #2, which debuted at the show.

It features underground comix from the '60s and '70s in a magazine format.

Right across the aisle from Artie was Denis Kitchen, so I stopped by and grabbed a copy of The Best of Comix Book – which Denis had spoken about during his panel.

On a suggestion from a friend I sought out Alex Graham. I really enjoyed her art style, and picked up the first two issues of her book Cosmic Be-Ing.

Around the corner from her I found Todd Jones and picked up the issues I was missing from his anthology series, Wicked Awesome Tales.

He was sharing a table with Jake Fairly, who was offering to draw any character as a Megacity Judge.

So I picked up a copy of his book, This Is Heavy Metal, and a sketch of Judge Hellboy and headed up to the mezzanine.

My first stop upstairs was at the table of Anna Bongiovanni.

Her rather unique beefcake tablecloth caught my eye, and before I knew it I had picked out several mini-comics that had to be mine.

A few tables down, I ran into Scott Roller & Alex Delaney and picked up a few more mini-comics from them as well.

A few more tables down and I came across Jackson Maness selling issue #1 of his 'zine, Bizarre Middle School Imagery, and prints of his artwork.

I thought that it was awesome to see a guy this young who already had a self-published book, so I bought a copy along with one of his prints and a sticker.

Walking around the corner, I came to the table of J. James McFarland.

I have enjoyed his art for a while, and I had asked for a commission of Hellboy the day before.

While I was picking it up I also grabbed a copy of his comic (Seymour Sexton Saxon: Twice Strikes the Ogopogo) and 2 issues of his 'zine (Politik).

At the table right next door, I stopped to see Cachet Whitman of Red Team Go.

My partner over at NerdTeam30.com had asked her for a commission of Drift, but he needed me to pick it up. I was so impressed with the piece that I ordered a commission of my own.

After that I stopped by the Creephouse Comics table and picked up a few more pieces of original art from Kevin Gentilcore before heading back downstairs.

I only had time for one more stop before the show floor closed, so I headed over to see Joe Oliver and picked up a few more pieces of his original art.

As I headed down the stairs for the final time, I saw Denis Kitchen headed into the DINKy awards. I did not attend the ceremony, but I understand that he won the first ever DINK! Comics Legend Award.
