Afterlight Comics Direct To Distribute Horror Comics From UK To USA

Afterlight Comics has launched Afterlight Comics Direct, a direct-to-retailer service distributing UK horror comics to the USA and Canada

Article Summary

  • Afterlight Comics Direct launches to bring UK horror comics to U.S. and Canadian retailers.
  • New direct-to-retailer portal offers retailer previews, discounts, and exclusive variant covers.
  • Wholesale discounts of 50%, free U.S./Canada shipping for orders $350+, fast international delivery.
  • The service focuses solely on Afterlight Comics titles, not other UK small press publishers.

Afterlight Comics is a small-press British comic book publisher known for creator-owned horror comics set in the UK (often in Wales). Like many comic book publishers, they have had distribution challenges over the last year due to the bankruptcy of Diamond Comic Distributors. Afterlight is still distributed in the UK and Europe through the management-bought-out Diamond U.K., but there is still no solution with Diamond UK regarding distribution in the USA. Until now.

Afterlight Comics tells me that, due to Diamond's lack of distribution, a number of US comic shops have tried to acquire their comics directly. As a result, they have launched their own international Direct to Retailer service, which features a retailer-friendly portal where they receive the Afterlight Comics Monthly Previews catalogue (seen below), featuring new and archived titles.

They will offer 50% wholesale discount on all titles, retailer-exclusive variant covers, early access to upcoming releases, UK free shipping with £30 minimum spend, US/Canada shipping free with $350 minimum spend, $30 for under $250 and $12 for $100 or less. Tracked international delivery time to the United States/Canada is 7–14 day.

Any North American comic book retailers are encouraged to get in touch.  Afterlight Comics' first titles in their first Afterlight Comics Direct catalogue include Devil's Mint one-shot by Paulie Wenger, Slasher Royale #3 by Joseph Oliviera and Dominic Racho, Empty Eyes graphic novel by Diego Agrimbau and Juan Manuel Tumburus, Pest Control graphic novel by Max Aguiree and Jok, and Inuit #2 by Massimo Rosiart and Nicola Izzo.

The big question is, will Afterlight Comics allow other UK comic book publishers to join their catalogue? I did ask and was told, "Good question, no, Afterlight Comics Direct is focused solely on distributing Afterlight titles. As a horror comics publisher, the aim is to build a direct relationship with retailers who seek or come to us specifically for horror." Why do I get the feeling that a few UK small press comic book publishers, facing their own distribution horrors, might want to persuade Afterlight Comics to look kindly on them as well?
