Bleeding Cool Bestseller List – 9th Feb 2015 – 'This Summer Is Going To Be Nuts'

4161_fulThis is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the "Wednesday Warriors", those who can't wait to the weekend to get this week's comics. We salute you, and the keenness you bring to your passion.

And it wasn't just a one-off. It may not have sold a million but Star Wars #2 has sold rather well… but also note Image Comics grabbing four of the top ten this week, their best result to date on these weekly charts.

  • 1. Star Wars #2
  • 2. Batman Eternal #44
  • 3. Superman #38
  • 4. Saga #25
  • 5. Avengers #41
  • 6. Detective Comics #39
  • 7. Black Vortex Alpha #1
  • 8. Nameless #1
  • 9. Spawn #250
  • 10. Wytches #4

And this is what they have to say…

Spawn beats out Starwars by 2 comics.  Of Course we are in Mcfarlane Country so no surprise. Lady Mechanika takes 3rd and Birthright 4th………Wyches would have take 3 rd if we weren't short shipped.  Saga jumps in the top ten as well.  Marvel and Dc barely make anything in top ten this week.  This week was about the indies.  Star Wars sees a huge drop in sales with lack of Variants but we did sell out.  Just not as fast.

Star Wars still going strong with #2 selling almost 200 copies the first couple days of release. Still selling 5-10 copies of #1 like clockwork each day. The rest of the big hitters this week came from Image with Wytches leading the pack.

Back-issue market was quite this week. Deathstroke was picked apart with Suicide Squad right on it's heels.

Star Wars 2 takes the top spot. Batman Eternal landed in second place. Spawn for the first time in the whole time we have been open made it into the top ten. Will any of these new readers stick around? Ant Man is a hit. Would have done better had I had more on hand. Superman 38 received a nice sales boost thanks to his new power. Harley variant covers are a hit. Best Feb Wednesday in the history of the store.

Avengers is getting in demand thanks to the upcoming movie. Sold all our Walking Dead back issues that were before issue 100 on back this week.

Wow, great week in comics! Star Wars #2 dominated sales this week. Noticed a ton of customers giving in to the hype and scooping up the first two issues. Word of mouth has been crazy for this book. Lots of times before we even have a chance to recommend it to anyone. Customers push it on each other like mad, it's pretty great. Our second biggest seller was Saga, which is pretty awesome, thinking that an Image book that isn't Walking Dead is our second highest selling book. Saga is almost doing Batman numbers in our shop and that is just wild. Not to mention books like Velvet, Birthright and Wytches were also in our Top Ten and outsold big books from Marvel & DC. Especially a book like The Wolverines, which as a followup to the Death of Wolverine , you would think would be a great seller. But I have had dozens of customers complain about how absolutely terrible the art has been in that book. The first issue we had very high pulls for it, as of this weeks issue #5 we are down to about 10% of what we had for issue one. Pretty sad!

Still selling Star Wars variants and issue #1 like mad. Old Star Wars trades have been flying out of here like mad too. Once people get a taste they keep looking for more.

Really good start for Nameless #1. I am really going to miss the DC Weeklies. Getting people in more often to get their stuff and really good sellers. Star Wars would have been much better, but because we had to finalize our order for #2 before #1 shipped, I guessed low, too low. But more arriving next week. Ant Man still doing really well. Sold out of Superman too.

This summer is going to be nuts.

Not surprisingly Star Wars #2 clobbered the competition – if SAGA had come out almost any other week it might have been #1..
