Buck Danny Launches A Spinoff That Laughs In The Face Of Continuity

Long running French aviation comicbook Buck Danny has had an interesting development. There's a new volume out in a few days, the 53rd collection of the comic, Cobra Zoir, now written by former fighter pilot and aviation comics specialist Frédéric Zumbiehl.

But as well as continuing the original series with original publisher Dupuis, currently written by Zumbiehl, there will be a spin-off series with a different publisher, Zéphyr, which specialises in aviation comics.

Yes, the comics publishing industry is so large in France, it can support a publisher who only puts out aeroplane-based comics.

The original series, created in the forties, shows an US Navy aviation hero who joined the force at the time of Pearl Harbour and is still flying the newest planes, aged only a few years.
No explanation is given, and nor should it – except the spinoff book aims to show the character through different parts of his life, starting with the Korean War. It's not so much ignoring continuity, as rubbing your face in it, and laughing heartily.

The existence of Buck Danny Classics from a different publisher, is only possible because the series belongs to the original creators' heirs…. not to the publisher itself.
