DC Comics Shows Off More Artwork For Orlando Benefit Comic (UPDATE)
Jonathan Rich, Bleeding Cool Senior Southern Correspondent, is holed up at the DC Comics panel at North Carolina Comic Con.
He reports in on imagery being shown from the DC/IDW volume Love Is Love, created to benefit victims of the Orlando club shooting and their families.
In September DC Comics and IDW Comics announced the joint publication of Love is Love, a 144-page anthology to benefit Quality Florida and their fundraising efforts for victims, survivors and families of the Orlando Pulse nightclub shooting.
Saturday at NC Comicon, several members of the creative teams working on the book which comes out December 21 talked about why they are involved.
"It all stems from the fact that this stuff can't stand," said illustrator Mitch Gerads who worked on a piece for the project with his Sheriff of Babylon co-creator Tim King. "It's a tragedy and we want to do what we can with our talents to help."
"I am from Florida but you don't have to be from there to be impacted by this tragedy," said Robert Venditti, current writer on Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps. "I have a friend who lost someone in the shooting. I didn't personally know anyone who passed away, but I think it affected everyone is some way."
The previously announced list of comics professionals working on Love is Love include:
Phil Jimenez, Steve Sadowski, Paul Jenkins, Mike Carey, Matt Wagner, Marguerite Bennett, Aneke, Damon Lindelof, Patton Oswalt, Steven Orlando, Rafael Albuquerque, Jason Aaron, Jason Latour, James Asmus, Ming Doyle, James Tynion IV, Cecil Castellucci, Brandon Peterson, Jesus Saiz, Olivier Coipel, Leinil Yu, Elsa Charretier, Cat Staggs, Steve Orlando, Brian Michael Bendis, Emma Vicelli, Kieron Gillen, Various, Dennis Cowen, Paul Dini, Ming Doyle, Ed Luce, Jay Edidin.
Published by IDW, Love is Love can be ordered through comic stores with Diamond Code OCT160480 and will cost $9.99.
"It's going to be a special book and the proceeds will go to a good cause," added Vertigo editor Jamie S. Rich who is helping to oversee the project for both IDW and DC Comics.
