The DC Comics character Fire, Beatriz da Costa, was initially created for Super Friends #25 in 1979 as a Brazilian superhero, Green Fury, created by E. Nelson Bridwell and Ramona Fradon and became a member of the Global Guardians.
She gained greater prominence at DC Comics as a member of Justice League International, recreated alongside Ice, courtesy of J.M. DeMatteis and Keith Giffen, and stayed with the team for as long as it existed. She has returned sporadically, including various JLI revivals and the current Fire & Ice: Welcome To Smallville series. In which she encounters another Keith Giffen co-creation.
And the chemistry positively cracked between the two of them.
Superhero fighting as foreplay, once more. Well, it can't just be Batman and Catwoman, right?
And while hormones are flying all over the place…
Clearly it's time got one Keith Giffen to get down with another Keith Giffen recreation.
And yes, it is a shame that he didn't get to see this. But does make the Keith Giffen tribute at the end of this issue, even more poignant.
Lobo is playing with Fire here, of course. He had better not harm or or she'll incinerate his dolphins. And no, that is not a euphemism.
FIRE & ICE WELCOME TO SMALLVILLE #4 (OF 6) CVR A TERRY DODSON
(W) Joanne Starer (A) Natacha Bustos (CA) Terry Dodson
Ice's worst fears about Fire's antics are confirmed when a horrifying revelation comes to light, and whatever trust they'd tentatively rebuilt crumbles to dust. And despite Martha Kent's best attempts to mediate over Smallville's finest drag brunch, there might be no coming back for what was once the Justice League's most dynamic duo. (Booster and Beetle who?) Oh, and Lobo shows up hot and bothered to throw down in Fire's defunct fight club. What could possibly go wrong? Retail: $3.99 In-Store Date: 12/05/2023
