Marguerite Sauvage Draws the Cast of Firefly for Firefly #2 Variant

It's #MalCrushMonday, the weekly celebration for Firebronies — the hardcore fans of the prematurely canceled television show Firefly — organized by explosive publisher BOOM! Studios, publishers of the upcoming Firefly comics revival. And that means it's time for BOOM! to unveil another variant cover, in this case, by superstar artist Marguerite Sauvage.

A press release elaborates:

This spotlight on FIREFLY #2 continues with the reveal of a variant cover by acclaimed artist Marguerite Sauvage, featuring younger versions Mal and Zoe during the Unification War. Now, fans will learn his true past and the definitive story of the intergalactic civil war that divided friend and family alike — in this news series by New York Times best-selling writer Greg Pak (World War Hulk, Mech Cadet Yu) and artist Dan McDaid (Judge Dredd), along with series creator & story consultant Joss Whedon (the visionary writer/director behind Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Marvel's The Avengers and more).

And what would a BOOM! press release be without a quote from one of their editors? Shorter, for one thing. But it also wouldn't feel right. For this one, BOOM! broke out the big guns, Executive Editor Jeanine Schaefer, who said:

The relationship between Mal and Zoe is one of the most complex and nuanced in Firefly and so much of our series is about capturing the nature of their bond as Marguerite does so skillfully with this cover. Their journey through the Unification War reveals not only a lot about Mal and Zoe individually, but also about the shared crucible that made them inseparable, whether they want to be or not.

Firefly #2 will hit stores in December, but the first issue is in stores on November 14th.
