Mika Song Has a New Culinary Raccoon Graphic Novel, Night Chef

Mika Song's Donut Feel The Squirrels comic book is published by Random House Graphic in September, the first in her Norma & Belly series, and her first published graphic novel, but she is already working on something totally different.

Night Chef is a brand new a middle-grade graphic novel by Mika Song. Restaurants around the world know of the legend, a raccoon in search of her master chef that travels from kitchen to kitchen in the middle of the night, creating new dishes and cooking the best meals… but is there a chance the legend might be real…

A shorter, earlier version of Night Chef was published a few years ago, but it will getting a full graphic novel treatment in two years time. You can see more of her work here.

Mika Song grew up in Manila, Philippines and Honolulu, Hawaii and studied animation at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. She worked in animation on children's educational movies for several years before moving into picture book illustration, and received the Portfolio Award from the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Her work on A Friend for Henry by Jenn Bailey received the Schneider Family Honor from the American Library Association this year. She also holds a regular comic class for young people in her Queens neighbourhood.

Whitney Leopard at Random House Graphic has also picked this up and it will be published in 2022. Mika Song's agent, Erica Rand Silverman at Stimola Literary Studio, did the North American rights deal.

Random House Graphic (RHG) is a new imprint dedicated to publishing graphic novels for kids and teens of every age and interest, fiction and nonfiction, and launched its first list in Spring 2020, young chapter books to YA, reflecting the rapidly growing popularity of the format among young readers. Gina Gagliano is the Publishing Director of Random House Graphic.
