Speculator Corner: Halcyon #2
Something very odd seems to have happened. Diamond Comics Distribution do not seem to have distributed the second issue of Halcyon, the debut Collider Entertainment title for Image Comics, in the UK.
And they have now informed retailers that there will be no copies coming. Just as issue 3 is about to ship.
And what's odder, co-creator Marc Guggenheim and published Image Comics hadn't heard a word of it until I got in touch to ask him what was going on.
It seems that Diamond or Diamond UK managed to lose the copies in question in the big move to the new shipping system to get books to UK retailers on the same day as US stores. But this was the only title affected. And they kept it to themselves a bit.
Diamond UK have made issue 3 of the series, shipping this week in the UK, returnable for UK retailers and have reminded retailers they can adjust their orders for issue 4 to reflect this. Diamond are taking the initial hit over the loss and returnability, but Image may see a drop in demand for the book if Brits are missing issue 2 and decide not to bother picking up subsequent issues.
Mind you, that may mean instead that there is demand without supply for that second issue. Anyone who does get copies over the sea may be able to charge a premium for the trouble. And certainly if a movie does get made of the film, a reduced print run for a second issue, with another estimated 10% lost in the British ether could make it a desirable commodity indeed.
Expect some international trading going on this week as a result…
