The Cat Meets His End, And So Does Philemon
One of the most popular French-language cartoonists, Philippe Geluck is ending his Chat newspaper strips after thirty years.
Starting in 1983 in newspaper Soleil, then Sud-Ouest, Ouest-France and À Suivre., before being collected by Casterman in 1986. The character is pretty much ubiquitous in France and Belgium, a kind of intellectual Garfield.
He will continue the character in albums however, and he is still planning one a year. Geluck is also contributing an opening gallery to a new Manhattan gallery of Belgian art.
Also concluding is Philemon, a historical French comic series by Fred. Originally serialised in Pilote, the final volume has taken around ten years to finish, and he has declared that this will be his last work.
