The twelfth and final issue of Vertigo Comics' Sheriff of Babylon is on stands and artist Mitch Gerads is proud of the Iraqi War story he was able to tell with writer and former CIA operations officer Tom King.

"I'm incredibly proud of this book," Gerads said during the DC Comics panel at NC Comicon Saturday. "It meant a lot to me and I hope readers feel the same way."

Sheriff of Babylon tells the story of a Florida police officer turned military contractor in 2003 tasked with training a new Iraqi police force. The protagonist gets pulled further into international issues when one of his trainees dies and the American must team up with the last remaining cop in Baghdad to fight a growing criminal underworld.

Gerads penciled, inked and colored all 12 issues of the limited series and urges those who missed the individual issues to catch up with the trade paperbacks.

"Bang, Bang, Bang is the first one out and it includes issue five which is 22 pages of a conversation about war, which is my favorite part of the whole series," Gerads explained. "Volume two Pow, Pow, Pow is due in early 2017 and volume three is Pew, Pew, Pew. That's actually the title, which makes me laugh when talking about this serious book on the Iraqi War."
