Sonia Leong – the Comics Artist with Work Appearing in Fast & Furious: Hobbes & Shaw
Comic book writer, artist, illustrator and designer Sonia Leong, is appearing at London Film And Comic Con this weekend, the beautifully air-conditioned Kensington Olympia hall. The place is festooned with posters for the new Fast & Furious: Hobbes & Shaw movie, as Universal Studios have recently switched their promotional appearances from the MCM shows to the Showmaster shows. It's a thing.
But for Sonia Leong, it has even greater meaning. Because the production company making the movie reached out to her, to use her designs in a tattoo parlour that features in the movie – and paid her for the privilege. She doesn't know which of the pieces they will use, but she was paid for the rights to use any of them and she will find out when the movie is released, very shortly.
She's certainly committed to the artform and is especially grateful for the air conditioning here today, as England his new temperature records. Becaue she also got a new tattoo herself the other day and is still wearing the clingfilm…
She also has her new Marie Curie graphic novel out for the show – some of the very few copies currently available in the UK. I think my youngest daughter may have eyes on a copy. Probably more her speed than Fast & Furious. Which is released in the UK on the 1st August.
