The Mayor Of Syracuse Declares This Saturday To Officially Be Neal Adams Day
Mayor of the city of Syracuse NY in the USA, Stephanie Miner, has declared this Saturday to be Neal Adams Day.
Neal Adams is a legendary comic book creator and fighter for creative rights. From X-Men to Batman to Green Lantern to Continuity Studios, to recent Batman and Wolverine work, he is still much in demand and the characters he created regularly show up in TV and film.
Adams is a guest at the Salt City Comic-Con this weekend, taking place in Syracuse. The first time the city has had such a big comic book show. But events begin before that, with Neal Adams popping by all of them.
Wednesday: They taking over the local brewpub, Empire Brewery, Wednesday night with an event, and they've created a special beer: BARLEY QUiNN! That will have prizes and fun and writer Tom Peyer will be there too.
Thursday: Neal Adams will be doing a store signing at Larger Than Life Comics in Syracuse's Great Northern Mall
Friday: They'll be at Syracuse University (SU) and Bonfire's Ed Catto has convinced the Special Collections Library to open their vaults – usually only available to researchers- so everyone can see their amazing original art collection. There will be a panel led by Catto with comic book historians at 5pm on the campus too. Free to all.
And then Saturday is Neal Adams Day and this two-day Salt City Comic-Con officially kicks off, with Neal attending both days with his large booth.
The convention centre is also on Adams Street – which will be renamed Neal Adams for the duration of the events. I wonder if he'll be allowed to keep the store signs afterwards?
