You Wait For Ages For TransComics And Then Three Come Along At Once
We've had Batgirl recently, when a female character created by Gail Simone who had appeared throughout the current run, outed herself out as transgender.
Then last week, Storm Dogs by David Hine and Doug Braithwaite from Image ran a storyline involving a transgender character in a science fiction setting, which inspired this rather thoughtful essay.
And then this week's long awaited Nonhumans #3, also from Image Comics, goes for the allegory route. An artificial character who reveals herself to be transpecies, in tackling her own body issues.
It's quite possibly the allegory is stretched her, and some may take issue with the "shell" concept, but it's a subject and an area that comic books right now seem more and more interested in addressing. Without without allegory.
