James Gunn Shares Another Behind-The-Scenes Photo From Guardians 2
James Gunn posted another behind-the-scenes picture from the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 today. This one highlights the final after-credits scenes — and could be one of the most important after-credits scenes we've seen in a movie thus far.
In this scene, we learn that the Watchers are canon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. No one was really sure who owned what when it came to the Watchers, but Gunn later revealed that while Marvel doesn't own Uatu they can use the concept of the Watchers and lesser-known Watchers in their movies.
We also find out that Marvel Cameo King Stan Lee has been working for the Watchers this entire time. It confirms a longstanding fan theory that Lee isn't just some random guy, but actually a Watcher — or at least someone who reports to the Watchers. It canonically made all of his previous cameos the same guy, despite the various timelines and locations. Gunn is a huge nerd, so of all the people working in Marvel, he would be the one to make this fan theory canon.
Summary: The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill's true parentage.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, directed by James Gunn, stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, and Kurt Russell.
