Mowgli Gets a New Trailer, a Release Date, and Will Have a Limited Theatrical Run

Back in July it was announced that the Andy Serkis directed remake of The Jungle Book would be heading to Netflix. The production was a troubled one with many delays and plenty of people wondering if we needed another version of this story so soon after Disney did their live-action remake. Netflix was likely excited with the acquisition since it gives them a big blockbuster movie.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Netflix is giving the film a limited theatrical release on November 29th before heading to Netflix to stream on December 7th. The announcement also came with a new trailer for the production and the fact that a subtitle has been added changing the title to Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle.

This is a prime time to release a movie and you can bet that limited release will include Los Angeles and New York City because those are the two cities your movie needs to play in theatrically to qualify for an award. What category this movie could push for, aside from special effects and directing, would be tough. The Academy doesn't really know what to do with motion capture technology since it is a combination of the animation of many people and acting. If Netflix gives this movie an awards push it could help the Academy finally come to decision on where they stand with motion capture technology.

A human child raised by wolves, must face off against a menacing tiger named Shere Khan, as well as his own origins.

Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, directed by Andy Serkis, stars Rohan Chand, Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch, Andy Serkis, and Peter Mullan. It will have a limited release in theaters on November 29th and stream to Netflix on December 7th.
