The Shape of Water Leads the Pack in Golden Globe Nominations
It's the end of the year, and that means its awards season in the film community. It's been going on for a while now in fact, and in a bunch of ways, we are hurtling towards the Oscars at a blistering pace. As prestigious 'film of the year' awards are coming out, we're getting a clearer picture as to who the favorites are.
Well, the second biggest player on the awards circuit, The Golden Globes, has now put its flag in the sand, and there are two big stories coming out of it. The first is that the Shape of Water is seemingly leading the pack, with seven nominations. While the number of nominations isn't always a clear-cut indicator of who will win, it certainly shows that there is a big affection. It seems even doubly bizarre as 'sci-fi romance' isn't a category you'd expect to be running out as a forerunner on the circuit.
The second big story here is Christopher Plummer's nomination for All the Money in the World, as a couple weeks ago, he wasn't even in the film. Back in early November he replaced Kevin Spacey, who was removed from the film after shooting had wrapped due to sexual harassment allegations levied at him. Plummer and crew on the film had to do a lot of work in a short amount of time, but it seems to have paid off, with the film obviously being done enough to screen.
One other note is that the Golden Globes didn't seem so hot on another Awards circuit darling Get Out. While it picked up nominations in 'Best Picture – Comedy or Musical' and Daniel Kaluuya got a nomination got Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, the film is missing from screenplay and director awards.
