Josh Charles (The Good Wife, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) is the most recent addition to Netflix's upcoming space drama Away. The 10-episode series centers around astronaut Emma Logan (Academy Award winner Hilary Swank), who must leave her NASA engineer husband Matt (Charles) and their teenage daughter behind to command an international space crew embarking on a dangerous and groundbreaking mission to Mars.
The themes of the show are hope though insurmountable odds, showing grace under fire and the determination to overcome any obstacle. Matt will have to overcome life-altering challenges on his own upon learning the sacrifices he must make.
Away follows Emma Green, an American astronaut who must leave her husband and teenage daughter behind in order to command an international space crew embarking upon a treacherous, year-long mission. It is a series about hope, humanity and how ultimately, we need one another if we are to achieve impossible things.
Created by Andrew Hinderaker, Jason Katims, and Matt Reeves, the series is loosely inspired by the Chris Jones' Esquire article of the same name. Hinderaker, Katims, and Reeves will also take on executive producing duties with Jessica Goldberg, Michelle Lee, Jeni Mulein, and Ed Zwick. Goldberg will also serve as writer and showrunner. Hiinderaker and Katims will also write for the series, with Zwick set to direct the pilot episode. The series will be produced under True Jack Productions, 6th & Ohio and Universal Television.
Emmy and Golden Glove Award nominee Charles can also be seen in Showtime's The Loudest Voice, Amateur, Wet Hot American Summer, NBC's Law & Order: True Crime, and Comedy Central's Drunk history. Swank's recent projects include Netflix space thriller I Am Mother, Trust, and What They Had.
