Tucker Carlson, Kevin Spacey Video Offers Serious Christmas Creepiness
Kevin Spacey & Tucker Carlson decided to channel the spirit of Frank Underwood from "House of Cards" for a whole lot of Christmas creepiness.
After a global pandemic and two major labor strikes, I can say without hesitation that there's very little that can go on anywhere across the pop culture-verse that surprises me anymore. So when you tell me that Kevin Spacey posted a video of himself in character as Frank Underwood from Netflix's House of Cards (which went away a little more than five years ago) being interviewed about current events by ex-FOX "News" host Tucker Carlson, it just becomes another box on our every-growing "Because WTF Not?" scorecard to tick off. At this point, I'm pretty sure you know where this is going, with the in-the-headlines-for-all-of-the-wrong-reasons Spacey and Twitter/X glorified public access show host Carlson dropping that big, steaming pile of coal in everyone's stockings – just in time for Christmas.
Just so we're clear – in case it wasn't earlier – this is Spacey still portraying a character he hasn't been asked to portray in over a half-decade. Obviously, you're thinking, "Well, that's kinda creepy, Ray. " And you would be right – but it's a special kind of creepy because there are so many moments when those lines between Spacey & "Frank" really do feel like they're blurring.
"Yes, you know what that is?" Spacey asked Carlson after being played the Netflix "TUDUM!" sound – pounding the table twice to make a follow-up point. "Boom, boom. So it is bizarre they decided to publicly cut ties with me on allegations alone, allegations that have now been proven false. Because I don't think there's any question. Netflix exists because of me. I put them on the map, and they tried to put me in the ground." See what we mean? There's so much there that any decent therapist, confessional priest, bartender, dominatrix, or whoever could have a field day with.
From there, Frank-n-Spacey shares his thoughts with Carlson on the upcoming 2024 election -with the jacuzzi/"boner" line pretty much summing up the attempts at alleged "comedic satire" that Frank-n-Spacey's apparently attempting. He had one-liners to drop on Mike Pence dropping out, as well as current nominees Vivek Ramaswamy and Nikki Haley. As someone who appreciates a good self-inflicted public dumpster fire as the next pop culture obsessive, the "interview" finds ways to pile cringe moments atop cringe moments. By around the 4:17 mark, I was hoping that this was some kind of twisted performance art that ended with two up-and-coming artists ripping off "Mission: Impossible" masks and taking some deep bows.
