M.A.C.-Sponsored Superhero Remix Show by Designer Jeremy Scott Causes A Stir During NY Fashion Week
It's no longer much of a surprise to see fashion-oriented tweets in comic-book-centric twitter hashtags. As the iconography of this culture continues to seep into the mainstream, it's inevitable that it will re-emerge in more and more interesting ways. Last year's burst of Tron fashion was one noteworthy precursor to this phenomenon, and I think we just saw another with designer Jeremy Scott's show during NY Fashion Week a few days ago.
Scott is a rising star in the world of fashion whose designs have been worn by the likes of Lady Gaga and Gwen Stefani, and industry watchers take note of where he's going. As one fashion blogger put it:
Speechless for @ITSJEREMYSCOTT and as a Fashion blogger who covers comic con lol well you can figure it out #nyfw #fashion #milkfw
It's worth noting that Scott's show was part of a series sponsored by M.A.C. Cosmetics, well known in comics at the moment for their Wonder Woman line. The show also features remixes of other well-known iconography such as the Coca-Cola logo. As for the comic-inspired fashion, Scott seems to be a DC fan. Superman, Batman, and Capt Marvel-family symbolism can be spotted throughout the show.
