Archie Comics Sends Legal Letter To Indian Archie Movie
The filmmakers shooting Indian movie Boyss To Boyss Hain have received legal notice from Archie Comics threatening them with 70-80 million rupees if found guilty of plagiarism.
The Hindustan Times reports director Vikramaditya Narayan saying;
"We have received a legal notice from Archie. They read in the media that our film is inspired by the comic series. They feel that all characters are inspired, and that we have only changed Riverdale to Delhi University. We have replied to the notice, clarifying that the film is definitely not a copy, and that we'd be happy to show it to them. Our film is about youngsters and their colourful life. We never made any statement, which suggested that the film is inspired from Archie comics. One of my actors may have said in an interview that the film has a feel similar to Archie, but never that the film is based on it."
Which may have sounded a lot more convincing if in previous publicity the links between the two properties hadn't been stressed, with characters stated as being firmly based on Archie inventions. Intriguingly however, reports from back in September from Indian websites have been altered to remove all such references, save for one about the film matching the Archie colour scheme…
