Now eBay Start Taking Down DC Comics Digital Codes Too

download-1DC Comics has started issuing "buy physical, get digital" codes for their $3.99 monthly comic books. Just as Marvel have reverse-ferreted on their plans to drop the deal that inspired DC to copy it.

But just as Marvel readers have been targeted by eBay for selling those digital codes to others online, so DC Comics readers are under the thumb as well.

One person who found their listings deleted got this explanatory note from someone who seemed to think that comic books are sold on DVD or CD.

Thank you for contacting us. My name is Satyaki and I'll be glad to assist you regarding the removal of Digital codes and similar items visible on site.

I certainly understand that you received the code when you purchased the physical copy and the code can be used only once; however, let me inform you that UV codes are provided by the production house or the producer of the DVD when you purchase the official DVD. The UV access codes represent the purchase of a bundle of rights to download copies of movies for playback on authorized devices or to stream the movies.

Glenn, please know that use of the UV code is governed by the UV license, which permits the owner of the disc to access digital content in the cloud and does not allow resale of the service which is clearly mentioned on most of the card provided by the production houses. So selling the codes without accommpanying the original disks breaches the copyright of the production house hence in breach of our policy on Unauthorised copies.

In this scenario, you may certainly relist the item by providing the original disc along with it. To read the relevant policies in full, copy these links into a new browser window:

Regarding the similar items visible on the site, I would like to assure you that our policies apply to all the sellers on equal basis, please understand there are thousands of items listed at any given moment on eBay, so it's practically impossible for us to review all listings as soon as they're listed. This is the reason we appeal our community member to report the items which they think are in breach of our Policy.

Therefore, it would be helpful if you report these items using our online form to make sure your report is sent to the right team straight away. You can access it by clicking on the 'Report item' link on the item page. Our policy team is also working on the site round the clock to take action on all such items that are in breach and gradually there will be a reduction in volume of such items.

Thank you for clarifying the issue with us. We appreciate your cooperation.

Kind regards,

Satyaki T.

Which is all well and good – except DC Comics doesn't make that claim on the digital codes it provides… looks like the conversation will continue. But if anyone has any codes they'd like to sell, feel free to list them in the comments below.
