Trailer for New Documentary Looking at Comic Stores Across the USA – My Comic Shop Country

Anthony Desiato has written, presented and directed a new feature-length documentary My Comic Shop Country, about comic stores across America. He started to explore the subject after his own regular comic book store, and place where he once worked, New York's Alternate Realities closed in 2015 after 23 years in operation. Desiato is the director of My Comic Shop DocumentARy and host of the My Comic Shop History podcast.

My Comic Shop Country

After securing funding via a successful Kickstarter campaign at the end of 2017, the completed film is now seeking distribution. The film is intended to explore the business, fandom, and community of comic book stores across the United States from coast to coast.

Comic book characters are box office gold, but why isn't the same necessarily true for comic stores? See how the 20 shops featured in the film are turning the tide, one customer at a time, seven days a week. Plus: Learn the fate —and future?—of Alternate Realities.

My Comic Shop Country is expected to play at film festivals and comic book conventions through 2019 and in 2020. People can sign up for release news here. But for now, we have a trailer…

The fifth season of his podcast, My Comic Shop History, starts next month and will explore the lost comic shops of 90s-era Westchester County in NY.
