James Tynion IV and Werther Dell'Edera's "Something Is Killing The Children" #1 Increases Over 170% at FOC
Last week we told you that James Tynion IV and Werther Dell'Edera's new series Something is Killing The Children from BOom Studios was generating quite a bit of buzz in the comics world, as Boo, continues their attempt to steal the thunder from Image Comics in the world of creator owned comics – and PR. I mean, good luck, White Trees comes out tomorrow. But still.
Batman & Justice League superstar (and Tynion IV mentor) Scott Snyder has also chimed in on this new series:
As has Flash architect Joshua Williamson.
And DCeased writer Tom Taylor:
While there's no erotic covers for this series like with Faithless or no multiple sell outs before on sale (well, not yet) like Once & Future, all three of these series do have something big in common: absolutely massive order increases at FOC.
Specifically, Something is Killing The Children #1 had initial orders of 12,230 units from comic shop retailers. Boom's previous aforementioned series were big successes with mighty 50% jumps at FOC – and even that wasn't enough to meet the subsequent demand for Faithless and Once & Future.
But Something is Killing the Children wasn't satisfied with simply being the third biggest original series launch for Boom Studios.
Or even just being the company's biggest creator owned launch.
Something is Killing The Children #1 had a mind-boggling over 170% increase in orders at FOC. If you don't want to do the math because of the metric system, that means this issue sold 33,822 copies so far.
That's the best Boom Studios creator owned launch at FOC and the biggest creator owned launch in 2019. But will that be enough copies given the way fans and speculators are chasing after these new Boom launches?
Which outpaces Faithless and Once & Future and maybe one or two Image titles – so expect the two companies to continue their cold war of words about just who's got the bigger laugh girth.
And I'm told the reorder activity this morning probably means second – and maybe third – printing announcements for Something is Killing The Children #1 before the on-sale date of September 4th (a la Once & Future) as BOo, continues to chase Image's multiple printings crown currently held by Die #1 (which is on it's 5th printing…for now).
