Archie to Publish Riverdale Comic Based on TV Show Based on Comics

Like a snake swallowing its own tail, Archie Comics has announced plans to publish a new comic book spinning out of the hit CW television series Riverdale, which is itself based on Archie's own comic books. A press release revealed the news of Riverdale Season 3, which a press release promises "will reveal tantalizing details of the mysterious 'Gryphons & Gargoyles' plotline currently playing out on the third season of the TV show." Past seasons of Riverdale have also gotten their own spinoff comics.

More details from that press release:

Novelist Micol Ostow, who also penned next month's prequel novel from Scholastic, Riverdale: The Day Before, will be working with the Riverdale writer's room on the series. Thomas Pitilli, who handled art duties on the previous volume of the RIVERDALE comic, will return, trading off stories with Archie Comics veteran Joe Eisma (THE ARCHIES, JUGHEAD: THE HUNGER).

Said Ostow:

As a diehard Archie fan in my childhood, I never imagined one day I'd be writing my own adventures for the gang. The phenomenon of Riverdale has been such a thrilling extension of the universe, and I can't wait to explore new storylines with all my old favorites, along with the superstar Archie team!

Look for Riverdale Season 3 #1 in stores on March 13th. Below, see the main cover by Thomas Pitilli and variant by Joe Eisma.
