Who had this to say
Great week! DC finally takes #1 and #2 spot with Batman and Justice League. Silk and Bitch Planet continue to drive new customers into the store and TMNT drive the speculators for one more issue. Convergence starts to turn and sell thru , However we have dropped orders 60% across the board.
Nearly everyone who bought a copy of TMNT #45 grabbed the third printing variant of #44. We also had a ton of people coming in and grabbing the other issues of Endgame that we had on stock.
No surprise here, but Batman was the runaway best seller. It's clear that there was pent up demand for this series, and with the huge media push that the issue got we were selling it nonstop throughout the day. Convergence's main series is still a pretty strong seller, but no one is buying the crossovers. Avengers did better than New Avengers, which I found surprising. I was expecting the numbers to be about the same.
DC ruled the week with two sell outs Batman and Justice League. Leia #3 was still strong with almost selling 100 copies the first two days of release. Convergence still doing well and has more people back tracking for the #0-#3.
Deadpool is the constant back-issue seller with 5-10 copies selling everyday. The 1990's Clairemont/Lee run is starting to pick up. I assume for the Secret Wars cross-over and Omega Red first appearance.
Finally, a few Convergence miniseries titles that people were interested in! The number one comment was, "If DC would do these as ongoing monthly books instead of the crap that they've announced post-Convergence, I might be buying DC regularly." The reaction to the June lineup is extremely negative–and for the first time, readers are directly blaming an executive (Dan DiDio) rather than blaming creators. DC is a trainwreck right now, with dwindling sales and horrible editorial direction. Can't say that Marvel is generating a lot more excitement, though. Readers seem to see Secret Wars as "Marvel's Convergence" and are frustrated to see their favorite titles go away for months. They have little interest in trying to figure out which books are supposed to be the replacements for the REAL series (as one customer put it, "just tell me which one of these series they're g oing to count when they do legacy numbering in the future and maybe I'll buy that one"), and this is simply too big to make a customer feel like he can follow it all.
Strong interest in early issues of hot series from Image, Boom, and IDW. Renewed interest in DC Silver Age Flash and Marvel Silver Age Fantastic Four.
Batman 40 enjoyed the hype. It blew out of here. And of course Diamond failed to send me the 1 in 25 variant cover that I ordered. The comic I could have made the most money on this week. When I first opened Diamond hardly ever made any mistakes. Recently there have been plenty of mistakes. There needs to be another comic vendor like Diamond to help them at least care about their customers. This there is no other vendor so we don't need to worry about losing your business thought process just doesn't work. Justice League 40 shows Geoff Johns still has the reach and following. Convergence 4 still going strong. Princess Leia riding high on the popularity of Star Wars. A good week. Very happy to see Batman, Justice League, and Superman out before Free Comic Book Day.
