Bleeding Cool Bestseller List – 6th July 2014 – Eternal Beats Original Beats Rocket
This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the "Wednesday Warriors", those who can't wait to the weekend to get this week's comics. We salute you, and the keenness you bring to your passion.
It may be the best selling comic by Marvel to vendors this month, but it couldn't beat the top ten this week, with both Batman Eternal and Original Sin beating out Rocket Raccoon… but there are three Guardians books that make it into the top ten.
- Batman Eternal #13
- Original Sin #5
- Rocket Raccoon #1
- Superman Unchained #7
- New 52 Futures End #9
- Legendary Star-Lord #1
- Moon Knight #5
- Batman Superman #12
- East Of West #13
- Guardians Most Wanted #1
Thanks to these retailers…
- Graham Crackers Comics of Illinois – Plainfield, Naperville, Downers Grove, St. Charles, Wheaton, DeKalb + Chicago LOOP/Edgewater/Lakeview
- G-Mart Comic Books of Champaign, Illinois
- Jetpack Comics of Rochester, New Hampshire
- Rodman Comics of Ankeny, Iowa
- Yesteryear Comics of San Diego, California
- Fat Jack's Comicrypt of Philadelphia
And here is what they had to say…
Rocket Raccoon #1 was the clear winner. The other Guardians books performed so-so. The books that continue to perform good each and every issue, East of west, Lazarus and Sheltered. Get your good reading where you can.
Deadpool was the back-issue mover for the week. people looking for everything including the mini-series.
Superman Unchained finally made it out and is still a great seller. Batman Eternal is a run away freight train. Marvel made it Guardians of the Galaxy week with three Guardian spin offs. I hope that does not pull down the main title. Rocket Racoon is a hit. Iron Fist and Black Widow sales have sunk to bottom ten sales. Over all a good week. Hope everyone has a good 4th!
Captain America and Hulk back issues out sell the their current ongoing titles. People are more into the back issues than their current titles. That is still mind blowing to me. Captain America just had millions go see his movie and people are passing on his current comic series. That is pretty messed up.
Nice split (for our chain anyway) with MARVEL making 5 of the top 10 and DC making 5 of the top 10 books as well. No INDEPENDENT title came close to breaking the top 10 this week, though it's nice when they do.
Always pleased to see THOR GOD OF THUNDER making the top 10 list. It's a quality comic with Jason Aaron just killing it on the writing month after month.
I've heard other retailers complaining about FUTURES END having lackluster sales for them, but the title always hits the TOP 5 for us week after week after week so if that's lackluster, I'm okay with it.
Both Bombshell & Batman 75th Anniversary variants have added sales to the DC line across teh board. Not by leaps and bounds but there are a handful of people picking up both covers.
Golden Age sales have been picking up in general. It seems to be more speculatory purchases than collector purchases. Apocalypse appearances continue to fly out the door. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Back Issues will not stop selling. We load up the wall weekly, from original Mirage to current series IDW, incentive variants to exclusives and then have to do it again the next week. It's a mix of movie release speculators and new collectors.
Over-ordered(we thought) on the Guardians related books and sold out pretty quickly. Outside of the obvious (weekly and event books) Moon Knight has continued to sell and the new Iron Fist series has gone over very well. People at our store just love Earth 2.
