Bloodshot – Bigger Than Ever in Valiant's Bloodshot Salvation #1
Valiant has spent this week spotlighting the various new and returning cast members of Bloodshot Salvation – the publisher new series in September from writer Jeff Lemire and artists Lewis LaRosa and Mico Suayan.
So far we've met Bloodshot's daughter Jessie, his girlfriend Magic, and the series' new incoming villains, The Scarred Man and Rampage.
Now, closing out the week, Valiant is putting the big man himself out there: Ray Garrison aka Bloodshot, as illustrated by interior artist Lewis LaRosa.
Notably, Bloodshot Salvation seems to continue a new trend pioneered by Valiant earlier this spring with the launch of X-O Manowar #1 – a series that racked up more than 90,000 in initial sales and is still holding the record for the year's highest charting new series from any publisher outside of Marvel and DC.
To whit: Much like X-O Manowar before it, Bloodshot Salvation is being positioned as a clean jumping-on point for one of Valiant's, arguably, two or three most historically popular characters after a quasi-act break and shake-up to their normal status quo.
X-O Manowar left Earth, while Bloodshot and his love interest have gone off the grid to raise their newborn daughter. And while both series also honored past continuity without being beholden to it, Bloodshot Salvation looks to be introducing several major components – specifically a new cast of villains and Omen, a new extra-governmental agency formed in the wake of the fall of Project Rising Sprit – into Valiant's broader universe.
Plus, with Jeff Lemire working primarly on creator-owned projects these days, this will be your only chance to see him take him on a shared superhero universe in 2017 so fret not Moon Knight and Old Man Wolverine fans…
