Chuck Wendig's Shadow of Vader Not Solicited for January… Has It Been Canceled Completely?
We're all well aware of Marvel's firing of Chuck Wendig off the Star Wars: Shadow of Vader mini-series, which Wendig says was "Because of the negativity and vulgarity that my tweets bring. Seriously, that's what Mark [Paniccia], the editor said. It was too much politics, too much vulgarity, too much negativity on my part." The move was especially jarring, not just because Marvel has seemingly never exercised any control over their freelancers or employees social media behavior before, but also because the series had just been announced at New York Comic Con the week before.
And in that announcement, as Bleeding Cool reported, the book was set to launch in January. According to Wendig, he was fired from issues 4 and 5 of the mini-series, and would presumably be replaced. However, Marvel's January solicitations have been released and there's no sign of Shadow of Vader. Is Marvel delaying the series until they can find someone willing to replace Wendig for the final two issues? Or have they decided it's not worth the trouble to remind people of the firing at all and shelved it entirely?
Marvel declined to comment on the book's status.
