Convention Wars – Rhode Island Vs TerrifiCon (UPDATE: Peace In Our Time!)
Veteran comic book writer and editor Paul Kupperberg posted to Facebook the following reason as to why he didn't attend Rhode Island Comic Con in New England this weekend, despite having previously been announced.
I was informed by the person who set up my appearance that I was DISinvited because I was attending TerrifiCon ™ – Connecticut's Terrific Comic Con at Mohegan Sun. Apparently there can be only ONE in New England…? Anyway, as ever when asked to choose between one or the other, I chose the one who didn't ask me to choose. See you at the Mohegan Sun in 2017!
Terrificon ran almost three months ago from the 19th to the 21st August. Bleeding Cool reached out to Rhode Island Comic Con to ask them to explain the situation. They are yet to reply, but if they do, we will happily update this article.
UPDATE: They didn't return e-mails, but it seems someone spoke to Peter. He writes,
I'm now being told by the person who had supposedly arranged my appearance there that he never told me he HAD arranged the appearance for me and several other guests, but that he would TRY to arrange it and RICC turned down his offer. I can now only assume he told me the story about RICC turning me away to save face for not arranging the booking. Under the circumstances, I apologize to Rhode Island Comic Con for my earlier post.
It's always nice when peace breaks out.
UPDATE: The show did eventually get in touch, after the article's publication.
