Daredevil #612 Gives You the Biggest Bait and Switch in Town (Spoilers)
Charles Soule and Phil Noto are finishing Soule's run on Daredevil today. As is traditional, he is putting all the toys back in the box just the way he found them, for Chip Zdarsky to play with. A little sooner than he may have liked, perhaps, which may explain the slightly rushed and idealistic tone in this final issue of his, Daredevil #612. As everything to take down Wilson Fisk and stop him being mayor of New York comes into play.
A surprise confession from the Mad Thinker.
A handy bit of legislation.
A few folk to back it up.
A witness stand meltdown, condemning himself from his own mouth.
And in a few short pages, the result Daredevil has been fighting for, for a few short years. All very rah-rah, liberal fantasy about the power of a few good men, stepping up and good winning over evil. Through the courts rather than fistfights on a rooftop. The system (eventually) working, even if it has been corrupted from within and without.
And even an allusion that what the fictitious superheroes and people of New York did to Wilson Fisk, they could also do to President Donald Trump.
A feel good story, a power fantasy for the anti-Trump with everyone waving hastily assembled banners at having one the right thing – even if maybe previously they didn't do the right thing.
No, this is Charles Soule. You're not going to get that. You're not even going to get the Death of Daredevil. What Soule has prepared for Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto is far crueller…
Get ready for a masterful Bait And Switch, folks... why? Because Charles Soule hates you. It's the only explanation.
