David Finch Stands With Feet on Uncanny X-Men #1 Variant
To feet, or not to feet? That is the question which has divided the cover artists for the upcoming Uncanny X-Men relaunch. About half of the superstar artists providing covers and variants for the series draw their characters with feet, while the other half obscures said feet with creative posing, framing, or convenient Liefeld-esque smoke.
But for David Finch, there's no question which method for depicting feet he prefers: the one where he actually depicts them. Check out his variant cover for Uncanny X-Men #1, which one of Jean Grey's feet, two of Bishop's feed, one of Psylocke's feet, one of Jubilee's feed, and in an exciting bonus, one of Nightcrawler's feet with his toes in full view. The cover is as strong a statement in favor of drawing feet as Cliff Chiang's.
Here's where the battle lines have been drawn so far. On the side of feet: Cliff Chiang, Dave Cockrum, Jen Bartel, Elizabeth Torque, half of Leinil Francis Yu, and Carlos Pacheco. On the no feet side: David Marquez, Rob Liefeld, John Tyler Christopher, Scott Williams, Marco Djurdjevic, Joe Quesada, and the other half of Yu, who drew covers representing both sides.
Uncanny X-Men hits stores on November 14th.
