The Fighting American Will Wake Up In 2017, In New Titan Comic
Captain America was famously frozen during World War II and was woken up in the nineteen sixties for The Avengers comic books. His culture shock upon waking only increased as Marvel Time moved that waking moment later and later into the present day.
The Avengers and the later Captain America comic enabled Jack Kirby to return to the character he had created with Joe Simon in 1939, but were later barred from contributing towards, due to legal issues with the then-publisher Atlas Comics (later to become Marvel).
So back in the fifties, Kirby and Simon created their a new communist-fighting patriotic superhero, The Fighting American to show Atlas how it should be done.
Recently, Titan Comics picked up the license to create new Fighting American comics. And for Joe Simon's birthday, they are publishing Fighting America #1 on October 11th.
And, with a twist, the Fighting American will also have been frozen since the fifties to wake up today. In a world where the President of the United States is accused of colluding with the Russians communist government? Where gay marriage is legal? And where Civil Rights are an actual thing?
Here's the full solicitation of the first issue of the comic, getting a preview debut with Fighting America #0 next week at San Diego Comic-Con.
