Karen Berger To Make All Berger Books Returnable For First Two Issues
As part of Dark Horse's presentation to the Diamond Retailer Breakfast this morning at New York Comic Con, Karen Berger, showrunner of the New York imprint Berger Books had a lot to show off. We mentioned the Incognegro sequels and the first look at Seeds in other articles — but she had plenty more to present:
Such as Hungry Ghosts by Anthony Bourdain, co-writing with Joel Rose and drawn by Paul Pope.
This is a horror anthology book with the following pages by Alberto Monticello, with modern takes on old Japanese ghost stories.
Mata Hari by Emma Beeby and Ariela Kristantina, out in February is written from the perspective of Hari. And Karen wanted to give a special shout out to Emma for being the first woman to write Judge Dredd. She thinks this is the sleeper hit of Berger Books and that it is very well researched.
And the new printing of Dave Gibbons's The Originals will be printed as an oversized HC with heavy paper stock, and 32 pages of brand new material by Gibbons.
Karen emphasised that Berger Books will not see collections of their new series until the fall of 2018, October and November. And that issues 1-2 of each series will be fully returnable — which is just how Vertigo have done it of late. Clever way to keep the synergy.
This is all coming out of Diamond's Retailer Breakfast ahead of New York Comic Con, happening today. You can catch up with any other Retailer Breakfast announcements here.
