Kirby Comics Opens in Hanover, Pennsylvania, Makes the Front Page
Kirby Comics is a new comic book store that just opened in Hanover, Pennsylvania.
In a shopping mall.
Here's how to find it.
Here's the owner, Matthew Madrigale, who quit his job of 18 years as a forklift operator in York to open this store.
And he made the front page of the local news.
You can read the story here in a piece by Dustin B Levy.
The store features new comics, graphic novels, reprints, original artwork and autographed copies of comic books. Plus, Madrigale put his own creative touch on the store, which offers everything from vintage wrestling DVDs to cosplay jewelry, one of the store's best sellers. "When I created this, I wanted something that, not only I could be proud of, but something that I would want to walk into as a fan, and I'd be able to stay here all day and be entertained," he said.
And where does he get all his wonderful toys?
The store is also stocked with an array of action figures, from tiny handmade superhero dolls to Japanese-style Deadpool action figures. "When I grew up in the 80s, it wasn't cool to be a comic book fan. It wasn't regarded as it is today, you know? You couldn't tell people."And like any good comic book store, hidden treasures abound. Madrigale estimated about half of the comics in the store came from his personal collection, which consists of a couple hundred boxes in storage units.
