Love Is Love Will Only Be Eligible For An Eisner Nomination In 2018, Because Of Amazon

As the Eisner nominations were announced, Steven Scott of IDW Publishing posted his reaction to the Love Is Love comic anthology, the volume jointly published by IDW and DC to raise money and awareness for the victims of the Orlando Pulse gay nightclub shootings last year, not being included.

He wasn't alone.

Love Is Love was published in comic stores by DC/IDW. Previewsworld lists it as published on December 28th. But Jackie Estrada, who runs the awards, provided some context.

And indeed, Amazon has January 10th for the publication date. Plenty of publishers let direct market comic stores get first dibs on volumes before the bookstore market, which is served by Amazon.

The submission guidelines read,

Printed works must have been distributed in the United States between January 1 and December 31 of the previous year. Online material must have been first published in that same time period.

It just seems a strange way to define that period

But as a result, this time, the nominators and voters will have to wait another year to get the chance. If they remember. Hopefully we'll be available to remind them.

Other notable books not included for Best Anthology including The Tipping Point, 2000AD, Cinema Purgatorio, Phoenix Weekly and more…
