Mark Millar To Endorse Labour MSP Alongside The Shadow Chancellor This Weekend, Ahead Of Scottish Elections

Comic book writer Mark Millar was a key cultural figure for the Scottish Nationalist Party, he appeared in party political broadcasts…

…and was thanked by the SNP leader in his victory speech after their electoral victory a few years ago.

However, as a result of his strong anti-European Union feelings, Mark Millar did not back the Yes vote in the Scottish independence referendum. A switch that brought him a lot of criticism for, basically, being an apostate.

At the last General Election, he was backing Labour, and delivered this rarely-seen endorsement of his local constituency MP, Tom Clarke, who had been MP for Coatbridge since 1982.

As he says "I'm not really a tribal guy when it comes to politics, it can't just be about the party  for me. It's got to be about the person, about the ideals the integrity of the candidate………this isn't about some blind party loyalty".

Well, Tom Clarke lost his seat. The SNP won almost all the seats in Scotland, wiping Labour off the map. Tom Clarke also had to deal with some negative publicity over his decision to vote against same-sex marriage in Scotland.

Well now it's time for the Scottish parliamentary elections, and a similar spread is expected. But Mark Millar is going to speak in support of the Labour MSP Elaine Smith this weekend. She has held that seat since the Parliament began in 1999. But it's not looking good, even with the Shadow Chancellor Of The Exchequer on hand.

Will it be an equally hopeless cause? It looks like it. Funnily enough, Elaine Smith has also had similar problems to Tom…
