Axel Alonso States There's "Nothing Meat And Potatoes" About Marvel, In The Washington Post
Marvel EIC Axel Alonso has given the Washington Post some PR for the upcoming Civil War II series with the cover to Civil War II #0 by Oliver Coipel.
Civil War II, which will debut in June, will be written by Bendis, who Alonso said was a part of initial discussions because he is now writing Invincible Iron Man for Marvel. Alonso said that the Civil War sequel was Bendis's job to turn down, and that he's pleased that one of his most popular writers accepted another major Marvel event."
Talking about the move towards greater diversity in character and creator at the publisher, Axel Alonso seemed to reference a Bleeding Cool story, that DC Comics had told editors and creators that, after the DC You relaunch had been and gone that the publisher was looking for more "meat and potatoes" superheroics.
"There is nothing meat-and-potatoes about what we do," the editor said. "We don't believe in one formula. We believe in creative voodoo to mold these characters, and that's what we're going to continue to do."
Well, Tom Brevoort may not read Bleeding Cool, but we're happy to see Axel Alonso might.
