Idris Elba To Voice Shere Kahn The Tiger In Jon Favreau's Jungle Book

You have Idris Elba and you're only going to use his voice? That's exactly what Disney is doing, according to Deadline, who report the British actor is in final negotaitions to "perform" and voice the role of the tiger, Shere Khan, in Jon Favreau's live action adaptation of The Jungle Book.

The film will be a mix of live-action and VFX, and will be overseen by Rob Legato, who worked on Avatar, The Wolf of Wall Street and Titanic. So I assume we're in for animals that are in the vein of the apes in Rise of the Planet of the Apes here. Which is not a bad lead to follow, but it'll be interesting to see how actors portray what I assume will have to be pretty realistic tigers and bears and jaguars as opposed to those near human-like apes. It's not clear if Elba will be lending himself to be motion-captured or just voicing the tiger.

In the battle of the rival Jungle Book adaptations, Disney remains one step ahead now with the casting of its first actor. Warner Bros' version is still searching for a director, though they might be closing in on Ron Howard for the job.
