Phil Hall Is Back. Someone, Please, Pay Him Attention.
Phil Hall used to run a comic shop. He used to write the Mutant Media fanzine. He used to work for Comics International where he edited my various ramblings. He used to publish the PDF comics magazine Borderline. A familiar face at British comic book conventions for a decade, and in the comics industry as a whole – especially as he began to resemble Rik Mayall more and more – he's been absent of late. It seems he went and got himself a life.
Now he's a social worker in Northampton, and has left all that comics nonsense behind him. Mostly.
He's recently started writing two blogs – one creativity-related and one politics-related, as he stands as an independent councillor. No one looks as if they are reading them yet, or at least no one is commenting or approving his pieces. So Bleeding Cool people, pop by and say hi. Maybe he'll tell you a story about your favourite comics creator.
Anything he says about me, of course, are complete lies.
Sample rants include;
Of course, much of this might have to do with the fact that I hate comics with a passion now and would struggle to find any good out there. But that's not the case; there are still some comics that float my boat; but it appears that I might have sold them in favour of comics that I thought still floated my boat…
However, there was I, spouting how, if I ever had the chance to run the country, the first thing I'd do is turn us into Norway.
Councils employ lots of people just to ensure councils exist and without councils other services can't survive, so employing council employees becomes an essential department and apart from token cuts, always avoids the headlines.
So, consider this. I've had an interest in politics since I was at school, but finally admitting that I could try and do things in local politics took me 30 years to achieve. I know lots of people in the town who have opinions and are hard working members of their local communities. If you want to change the world around you, you might have to stand up and be counted. How many of you could seriously consider standing against your local political party at the next council elections? Do you think your neighbours would vote for someone like them, who has their community at heart; or do you think they're still inflexible and will vote with tradition?Have you got the bottle to find out?
It's also nice to see someone else go on about Northampton a lot, rather than the usual suspect.
