Prince Of Persia: Put Out The Graphic Novel… Then Serialise It In Comics?
It is an oddity. Bleeding Cool first reported on the Prince Of Persia: Before The Sandstorm prelude comic book coming out soon from Dynamite, but there is a little wrinkle.
The graphic novel, Prince Of Persia: Before The Sandstorm, a collection of short stories written by Prince Of Persia game creator Jordan Mechner will be published by Disney Press on April 13th.
It will sport a cover by Todd McFarlane and art from Niko Henrichon, Cameron Stewart, Bernard Chang, Tommy Lee Edwards, David Lopez, Tom Fowler and colors by Dave Stewart and Pete Pantazis.
128 pages for $9.99.
Pretty good.
Then First Second will republish the original graphic novel Prince Of Persia… with a new cover.
Then the film comes out, with a screenplay by Jordan Mechner, on May 28th.
Then in June, the Disney Before The Sandstorm collection is serialised in four issues, at $3.99 each, from Dynamite Entertainment. The Todd McFarlane cover for issue 1, with a B&W 1-10 variant, to be followed by new issues for the next three months with covers from, at a guess, the likes of Alex Ross or John Cassaday. It is Dynamite after all.
But isn't that a strange state of affairs? To put a comic out in individual issues after the original graphic novel has been published? Can anyone think of this sort of thing happening before?
Anyway, here's some sample art… from Tommy Lee Edwards, Cameron Stewart, Bernard Chang and a medley…
