San Diego Comic Con 2012 To Start With A Parade "For That 35-Year-Old Guy In His Stormtrooper Outfit"
I mean if the stereotype wasn't so true, it would be kinda insulting. But it is pretty much true, isn't it? San Diego City Council President Tony Young talked to Sign On San Diego about his plans to open the San Diego Comic Con with a parade.
OK. So, if you want more people to come here on Wednesday and rent out their hotel room and stay a whole extra day, one of the best ways to do that is to invest in a big balloon parade or something like that on Harbor Drive so that guy, that 35-year-old guy in his Stormtrooper outfit can walk down Harbor Drive with some pride and with enthusiasm. Obviously, that guy is going to end up spending money on meals three more times than if he didn't come here early.
The other thing is that the problem with Comic-Con sometimes is that San Diegans can't really participate in all the spectacle. They can't take part if the Convention Center's full.
So, like I said, this is a way for that guy who's in his Chewbacca outfit or whatever to take his kids and come down and watch this parade. They're going to be hungry, they're going to go to restaurants and they're going to spend money. The other thing is, you know CNN, and all the networks are going to show this. This is going to be a great way to highlight San Diego.
I want to see the mayor in his Batman costume that I know he has tucked in the back of his closet somewhere and I want to see him leading the parade.
I know this is going to be a mistake telling you this. Should I even say this? (Sighs)
I will be dressed up for the first one.
It's totally against my better judgment in saying that. But if I can just get that done, I'm putting something on. It might not be spandex, but it'll be something.
What about Luke Cage, Power Man? Do you remember him? Then again, I don't know about that yellow shirt. I'll figure something out.
