Retailer Turns to Kickstarter to Fund Comic Project
What fan of comic books hasn't thought, "I have a great idea for a story…" once or twice? Thanks to Kickstarter, a retailer is now close to seeing his vision come true.
David Crispino, current manager of Collectors Corner in Baltimore, Maryland, and former owner of Big Sky Comics and Collectibles in Montana, is using Kickstarter to start his labor of love, Blood & Time. "As a retailer, I get to read all of these great comics," Crispino said. "I get to see upcoming artists, writers and publishers. I wanted to throw my own two cents in to the mix."
Described as a "horror western story that deals with obscure American folklore and historic events, infused with a supernatural spin," Blood & Time deals with the events centering around The Battle of Little Bighorn in the 1870s.
After thousands of prospectors disregarded the treaty between the Sioux nation and United States government by heading west looking for gold, Native American Chiefs gather to deal with their loss of land and people. They believed it was greed that brought these men and their families to the Black Hills. They soon found that a malevolent spirit of gluttony, greed and hunger known as the Wendigo had cursed the souls of the white men and furthered their desire for gold, land and now flesh. Running out of options to combat this terror, the Sioux decide to create a terror of their own – an avatar of war.
John Warren provides the illustration, best known for his dark and eerie surrealistic painting style. "His grotesque aesthetic is exactly what I wanted to convey in this horror-influenced Western," said Crispino.
