Si Spurrier's Ten Reasons to Buy Crossed Wish You Were Here Vol Two TPB
Retailers are putting their final orders in for the March Previews today and we asked Simon Spurrier if he could provide a couple reasons why fans and shops should order Crossed: Wish You Were Here Vol 2 TPB.
He gave us ten…
#1- Because it's a ****ing award-winner, yo.
#2 – Because nuns.
#3 – Because Crossed is the most unapologetically brutal title there is, and Wish You Were Here is the only longform ongoing story set amidst its horrors.
#4 – Because if the above line about "unapologetically brutal" makes you feel queasy – like, "who would buy a comic just because of that?" – then know that Wish You Were Here has also been acclaimed as a characterful, uncomfortably honest, funny, tragic and intelligent tale which will stay with you long after you've finished reading, whose moments of ickyness are carefully deployed to serve the tension.
#5 – (Except for the bit where that one guy dies for absolutely no reason at all. That's totally gratuitous, yeah, fair enough.)
#6 – Because it sends the characters you learned to love, loathe and – heh – overlook in the first arc out into the wilds, to face untold challenges, to expose dark truths about themselves, and to encounter allies at least as deadly as the ubiquitous Crossed.
#7 – Because [original series creator] Garth [Ennis] told me he totally thinks it's great, and he was barely even drinking at the time.
#8 – Because this arc, unlike the first, contains a bare minimum of violence-perpetrated-against-dolphins.
#9 – Because we've been giving away this epic, thoughtful, soul-bothering tale completely free of charge online every week – you can go read it right now if you like, at www.crossedcomic.com – on the grounds that all you discerning consumers will enjoy the online version so much that you'll choose to own the printed artefact too. Or, alternatively, that you dislike reading good comics off a screen and demand real actual paper. Or, indeed, that you're a decent human and the guilt of being given something for free is even now overwhelming you, to the point that you must buy it, you must, because you OWE us, oh yes, you squirming maggot-monkey exploitative freeloader, you owe us.
#10 – Because if you pick up the first two trades right now you'll be caught-up when Arc#3 goes online. Which is going to be a bit of a Thing. And then, oh-ho-ho, the joys of a weekly, free online injection of Horror! Done! Right!
We have one more to humbly add…Because Si Spurrier is a uniquely twisted and creative soul that has turned the weekly free web comic into a must read for Crossed Nation fans.
