Retconning Typhoon – and Is That a Three Jokers Reference in Doomsday Clock #6? [Spoilers]
Typhoon is a relatively low-level villain in Firestorm comics. First appearing in Flash #294 in 1981, a colleague of Martin Stein, David Drake, was exposed to radiation and ocean water and developed the ability to control weather. He repeatedly fought Firestorm, whom he learned to hate.
Turns out, however, that it was all a front. Denying to the gathered villains of the DC Universe in today's issue of the unauthorised sequel to Watchmen published by DC Comics, Doomsday Clock #6, Typhoon denies that his powers have anything to do with the Supermen Theory — that the US government is creating superpowered people.
Turns out Typhoon is not telling the truth — though he may not realise it. As Geoff Johns retcons his origin as, well, entirely government-derived.
He was tagged as a metahuman as a child…
Then triggered by planned action, created as a supervillain and used to make contacts by government forced. And now, as we see, planned to use against Black Adam. Just the kind of thing the Supermen Theory suggested. And now Doomsday Clock readers have the paperwork to prove it.
While we also get notice that the Joker appearing in today's Doomsday Clock…
…may not be the one who has been appearing in Justice League.
Unless the Joker's chosen pronouns are now they/them.
