Venom #3 Reminds You That the Marvel Universe is Still Going On
Whether or not the new Venom series by Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman is better than Watchmen is still a point that will rage.
But today's third issue of the new series reminded me quite a bit of Swamp Thing. A previously unheard of history to Venom, all the symbiotes, going back billions of years, will be explored and established.
However, while Venom creates its own world, taking familiar yet unexplored imagery such as the stylised Spider image common to Venom, now reinterpreted as a winged dragon, it doesn't forget the rest of the Marvel Universe.
And throwing in one aside to Jason Aaron's run on Avengers currently being published, beds Venom into the rest of the shared continuity of the universe.
Isn't that a nice touch? From Avengers #1…
More of this sort of thing. You're a universe, act like it…
VENOM #3
(W) Donny Cates (A/CA) Ryan Stegman
• Still recovering from his injuries, Eddie Brock – the Wicked Web-Slinger known as VENOM – has to defend NYC against the most powerful foe he's ever faced!
• The only thing standing in his way? Miles Morales…SPIDER-MAN!
• Though Eddie and the symbiote have no qualms with this particular web-slinger, the same can't be said for Miles' feelings about Venom…
