Wave's First Appearance in War Of The Realms: New Agents Of Atlas Brings Out the Crowds
Last week saw the publication of War Of The Realms: New Agents Of Atlas #1 featuring the US Marvel debuts of Chinese Marvel characters Aero, Sword-Master and the first appearance of Filipino character Wave. And in the Philippines, this went down really well.
Comic Odyssey of Quezon City, held big signing event, and saw thousands of fans turn out. The store had ordered four thousand copies of their exclusive cover by Mico Suayan who was signing at the event – and sold out of the virgin cover, with a few of the titled cover left, becoming their best-selling comic ever.
"Normally, a best-selling title sells for about 400 to 500 copies, but the excitement surrounding the character has generated a lot of interest," related Sansolis. "I was looking at the orders coming in and they were from all over the country. And about half of those who ordered are females with many of them first-time comic book buyers. It's good for comics and good for the character in general."
"And I noticed from the orders than there weren't fans buying multiple copies. These are fans getting one for themselves and this is a really encouraging thing. Because it creates interest for the medium."
And the character got her first cosplay as well.
I am told that in general, Marvel overprinted by half, but sold out anyone and will be going to second printing fast. Initial orders weren't huge and that this is also driving a speculator market for this issue. The 1:50 tiered variant just sold for over $200, the 1:25 tiered cover for $90, the connecting cover for $12 and the standard cover for $10. Here's a look at the second printing…
While the exclusive Comic Odyssey cover is selling $300 for a set of two, $175 for the virgin cover alone…
