Rivals Week and GO Battle Weekend coincide this year in Pokémon GO, giving Trainers a chance to catch regional species globally.

The first event of May 2024 in Pokémon GO has been confirmed as Rivals Week. In addition to its theme of rival species, this event offers Trainers a chance to encounter Pokémon that are normally regional.
Here's what's happening for the Rivals Week 2024 event in Pokémon GO:
- Date and time: Saturday, May 4, at 10:00 a.m. to Thursday, May 9, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. local time
- New Pokémon: There are no new species coming in this event.
- Shiny release: There are also no Shiny releases either. However, the Shiny rate increase listed in the Event Bonuses will make this event well worth grinding.
- Wild Spawns: Alolan Sandshrew (can be Shiny), Mankey (can be Shiny), Poliwag (can be Shiny), Machop (can be Shiny), Gligar (can be Shiny), and Ralts (can be Shiny). Rare spawns will be Lickitung (can be Shiny) and Galarian Stunfisk (can be Shiny). There will also be regional Pokémon appearing during the following windows of time:
- May 4 at 10:00 a.m. to May 6 at 10:00 a.m.: Zangoose and Seviper, both can be Shiny
- May 6 at 10:00 a.m. to May 8 at 10:00 a.m.: Throh and Sawk, both can be Shiny
- May 8 at 10:00 a.m. to May 9 at 8:00 p.m.: Heatmor and Durant, both can be Shiny
- Event bonuses:
- 10× XP from spinning Photo Discs at Gyms
- 2× Catch Candy
- Increased chance of encountering Shiny Zangoose, Seviper, Throh, Sawk, Heatmor, and Durant
- PokéStop Showcases featuring event-themed species.
- Raids:
- Tier One: Mankey (can be Shiny), Teddiursa (can be Shiny), Swinub (can be Shiny), and Jangmo-o
- Tier Three: Regional species will appear globally during the following windows of time:

- GO Battle Weekend Bonuses:

- The maximum number of sets you can play per day will be increased from five to 20—for a total of 100 battles—from 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. local time.
- Free battle-themed Timed Research will be available. Rewards include the avatar item Hala-Style Sandals.
