Video Game Voice Actor Strike May Be Coming To An End

The video game voice actor's strike is officially the longest strike in the Screen Actor Guild's history, having started back on October 21, 2016, and currently (as of this post) running 340 days and counting. Considering how both sides (SAG-AFTRA and the publishers which included 11 different companies) seemed to not be talking to each other for weeks on end, and even seeing companies like Capcom reach out to non-union actors to fill the roles of longtime actors in series like Resident Evil, many were convinced that the strike would probably last until year's end. However, today a tentative deal was struck between both sides and that could be coming to a close.

Deadline Hollywood has a more detailed account of the deal currently being worked out, but the short version is that it would guarantee performers an increased salary bonus for days worked, as well as a percentage of the total gross sales based on the units sold. Basically assuring that, much like how many film and television actors receive residual checks long after a product is released, the voice actors who lent their talent to the game would continue to receive payment based on their work in the studio and the popularity of the game.

Keep in mind that the deal is still tentative and that it still needs to be approved by SAG-AFTRA's board of directors at their October meeting. But multiple actors have been taking to Twitter to talk about the deal and it sounds like many are in favor of ending it. Unless they find something hinky and decide to continue with their efforts, this may be the end of the strike.
